Delamere Forest is a magnificent working forest.
History of Delamere Forest
In 1919 the Forestry Act was passed and the Forestry Commission was set
up. In 1924 Delamere Forest was transferred to the Forestry Commission. In
1969 they opened a small visitor centre and established some guided
trails in the forest. The forest is now approx 950 hectares,
producing 6000 cubic metres of soft wood timber a year.
Please be cautious and go equipped if you are going to the forest. Please click here to see the Delamere Forest official site for more information.
To live within our resources, we need to achieve more with less. This requires us to change the way we design, produce, use and dispose of the products and services we own and consume.

There are six waymarked paths in Delamere Forest. There is the Linmere Trail (1.7 miles) and Blakemere Trail (2.7 miles), both of which are easy walks starting from Delamere Information Centre. The third path is a trail which starts at Barnsbridge car park and leads down to the serene landscape of Blakemere Moss (which is a lake). This trail includes musical instruments which are fairly child proof. You are advised to buy a map at the Linmere Visitor Centre to see all of the main paths until you know your way around Delamere Forest.
Facilities at Delamere Forest Visitor Centre include, tearoom, shop, toilets, car parks, disabled facilities, Delamere Railway Station, 2 waymarked cycle routes, an all ability trail, 3 picnic sites, Forest Classroom to hire, education service... Please remember that this is a working forest and not a theme park so you are not lead by the hand around the place. There are few sign posts telling you where to go and the toilets close at five o’clock mostly and shuts except Go-Ape which you should note doesn’t have its own toilets. The main Whitefield car-park opens at 8.30am, costs £3.00 for 3 hours / £4.00 all day and is locked at 5pm so beware. At Whitefield Carpark there are no change machines or shops or anything except trees and a great view of the lake across the insanely fast main road - mind your animals and children well until you are safe into the forest. You will find Whitefield carpark on the B5152; pass the Go-Ape & Forest main entrance, Delamere Train Station and Delamere Caravan Park and it's on your right if you came from the South (Abbey pub end). Note that the Linmere Centre carpark is £6.00 for the day and is ten minutes walk from the Whitefield carpark. There are paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs but it can get a bit muddy in places.
